We stayed at The Burrowhead caravan park which was a good base for the area and on a clear day gave us a brilliant view of the Isle Of Man.
And Guess what, No mobile phone signal to bother us for four whole days, peace perfect peace
Three miles south of Creetown and looking over Wigtown Bay lies Carsluth Castle
Carsluith began as a rectangular tower early in the 15th century, The wing is a storey higher than the main block and ends with a watch-room reached by a very narrow stair corbelled out on the west side.
just off the A75 south of Creetown in Dumfries & Galloway.
The site was excavated in 1949.and among the objects found in the outer compartment were part of an axe, a rare green stone, and a leaf-shaped arrowhead. The axe is kept in the Royal Museum of Scotland, in Edinburgh. .
The well-preserved ruin of a tower house of 15th-century date, the ancient home of the McCullochs. The architectural details inside the tower are of a high quality and there are good views over Fleet Bay from the battlements., The visitor centre has some good information on the history of the castle.
Maclellan's Castle Kirkcubright
This large town house was built in 1582 by Sir Thomas MacLellan of Bombie, Provist of Kirkcudbright.This stands in the middle of the Town MacLellan's Castle stands on the site of the convent of Greyfriars in the centre of Kirkcudbright. Sir Thomas MacLellan acquired the site nine years after the Reformation Act of 1560. MacLellan was an important man in the local community who held the position of Provost of Kirkcudbright between 1576 and 1597. He used the old convent as a source of stone to construct his new castle.

A Cistercian abbey founded around 1192.by Roland, Earl of Galloway It was visited by Robert the Bruce and James IV. Mary Queen of Scots stayed here The remains, including a handsome early 16th-century chapter house, are set in a lovely tranquil valley. An exhibition of objects found at the abbey is on display at the site..
