Irvine men Killed.
Mrs Hammill, Quarry Lane Irvine, has received intimation from the War Office that her husband, Private Peter Hammill, of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed at Neuve Chapelle on the 11th March. Private Hammill was the eldest of 5 sons of Mr John Hammill, 9Himself and old soldier), who enlisted at the beginning of the war.
Mr Duncan Sinclair, Harbour Street Irvine, has been officially informed that his son Corporal John Sinclair of the 1st Royal Scots Fusiliers, has died from wounds received at the front.

The Earl Of Eglintons Birthday
A dinner in honour of Lord Eglintons birthday, which fell on Sunday, was held in the Eglinton Arms Hotel, Ardrossan, yesterday afternoon. Mr George Johnston occupied the chair. The Irvine Third December club also held their annual dinner last night in Kings Arms Hotel Irvine in honour of the occasion – Bailie Wright in the chair.

Ayr- Warning to Tacksmen of Fishing
At a J.P Court held yesterday at Ayr, the tacksmen of the salmon fishing at Dunure was charged, on a complaint in name of the bailiff upon the River Doon, with having failed during a weekly close time to remove the leaders of the salmon bag nets, and with having a consequence taken a grilse in the nets. The tacksman pleaded guilty, and was find in the modified penalty of £7, with £3.14s of expenses, the justices at the same time explaining they had modified the penalty, simply because the offence was a first one.

Ayr Man Drowned
Last night Thomas Reese of the schooner Squirrel of Aberystwyth, at present lying in Ayr Harbour, while going on board of that vessel, missed his footing and fell between the vessel and the quay wall. He was found head downwards, with his feet sticking out of the water and when brought ashore, his life was extinct. The deceased who belonged to Aberystwyth was about 50 years of age, he leaves a widow and 3 of a family.
